Inspiration:
Justine started to be an agent for high-lever creative talent in New York City, she represented creative directors, art directors, copywriters, the kinds of people that were hired by big brands and agencies for 1500 dollars a day. Her exposure and experiences from her tasks for 8 years got her inspired to finally work for herself. Then 2008 when the recession happened, everything fell into pieces when higher-ups have put a hiring freeze, Justine figured her plan B. She got her aha! moment where she thought she could teach people how to be their own agent.
Challenge:
Her first obstacle was that her being known to the industry she’s was in and having a reputation to moving into an entirely new industry where she was nobody and with no credibility nor experience on an entirely different business model.
Overcoming Challenges:
Justine is a personal development junkie, when is presented with a problem she goes inward and looks for available resources to help her out solve the problem. For her, she has always had a pretty resiliency tool chest. She found strength in her weakness, she started to write and have a blog, she found writing as her way of articulating her opinions and her voice. She learned to trust her voice, trust her own capacity, her ability to make mistakes, and learn from them.
Passion:
She is passionate about a few things, and she feels that her business is a direct reflection of who she is and becoming as a person, as well as who her clients are and becoming. The thing that she found most important would be her purpose and joy. She felt so lucky to have found her purpose when she built her business which is to be able to help other people build a creative business. She is as well passionate about equity, being in a place where she can have tough conversations with people who don’t agree with her and still embrace the nuance and find compassion for each other.
Vision:
Her vision would be to be able to continue coaching through her style by connecting to people through her speaking and writing. She sees herself continuing to do things in a reflective work that she thinks everyone will be doing consistently throughout their lives.
Advice:
Her best advice was to build a business that supports the life that one wants to live and to never listen to what everyone is saying and to focus on profitability rather than scaling and be able to build a business that really works.
Personal Growth:
Overcoming and dealing with her imposter syndrome, trusting, and owning her voice as a writer would be the main parts of her personal growth.
Entrepreneurs Resource:
- The Morning Pages by Julia Cameron
- The Bullet Journal by Ryder Carroll
- Notion App
Blogs, Books & Podcasts:
- Bernie Brown
- Maya Angelou
- Mindset Book by Carol Dweck
Looking Back:
Looking back she would tell her younger self to trust her voice and be okay with failures and to learn to forgive one’s self first because by failing to do so, one can not have compassion for other people. To recover fast and keep moving, she added.
